This is one of a half dozen Lewis' Woodpeckers in a group along the Salmon River just below North Fork. Named after Meriweather Lewis who may have seen it first in this very area!!

So, they call these "Jump Ducks" for a reason! This 'greenhead' mallard made quite a splash leaving his roost! Good time to have camera ready...

I thought I was just getting some beautiful streaming rays of light through the storm. In addition, captured this petitioning face upturned toward heaven. Amazing light play through the storm clouds!
